Example projects
Configuration → Example projects (administrators only) offers ready-made projects, with their tasks, customers and logged time, that show one way of working. Add one to try the screens on work that looks real, and remove it when you are done. Administrators also reach the page from the Start from an example card of the welcome page, with See the examples.
A workspace starts empty: nothing is added unless an administrator presses Add. If the workspace was created through a link that chose an example, that example is the first card here, marked as the one you chose, and the welcome page's card names it and adds it with Add it and open it; either way an example is added only when an administrator asks for it.
The examples
| Example | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Nimbus Software year-end party | An event in three phases, with a team, dependencies, a weekly call and hours already logged. |
| Riverside pizza party | A small, friendly event: a handful of tasks with dates, owners and one dependency. |
| Acme Hardware year-end close | A year-end close for a retainer client, with monthly recurring work and an hourly value per kind of task. |
| Pérez succession | A legal case with restricted access: the team sees the case, and one note is visible only to you. |
| Lumen Dental opening party | A finished project, archived: history to look back on, filter and reopen. Its tasks have the Archived status, which the work items list leaves out until you add it under Filters ▸ Status. |
| Studio website refresh | An idea that is still a draft: a project nobody has started yet. |
| Claims and suggestions | A public form and the tickets that came through it: claims, suggestions and questions in several states, and senders kept informed of the answer. |
| Support desk | A support form and its queue: requests by priority and owner, and a weekly review of what is still open. |
The two examples with a form create it switched off: its public address answers that the form is not available until you switch it on. Adding either one also turns on Public forms under Configuration ▸ Features, and removing the example leaves it on. No email is sent for the example's tickets.
Each card says what adding it creates: how many work items, any recurring series, and its customer.
Adding an example
Add runs on the server, so you can leave the page meanwhile; once it is done, Open project makes the example your active project and opens Home, where Getting started lists what to try on it. The workspace adds or removes one example at a time: while one is in progress every button waits.
Adding an example creates:
- The project and its work items, numbered like any other work item.
- Its customer, if it has one, and what the example needs around it: a team, task categories and task types, a customer type and group, customer custom fields and tags. Apart from the customer, whatever your workspace already has with the same name is used as it is, not created again.
- An Example tag on the project, its work items and its customer, so you can tell them apart and filter them out of a report.
Every person in the example is you: the tasks are assigned to you, and the logged time is yours, recorded on the day you add it. Until you remove it, the example is part of the workspace like any other work: it appears in every user's lists, the board, the reports, the dashboard and search, and its customer's custom fields appear on every customer's form.
The examples of a workspace share one language. The first one follows your language; the ones added after it use the same.
An example cannot be added when:
- The workspace is in Basic mode: every example is a project, and Basic mode has no projects. The page says so, with a link to Application mode. Open project is hidden there too.
- The example's customer would pass the customer limit of your license.
- One of your own customers already uses the example customer's code. The message names the customer; change or clear that customer's Code on its form to add the example.
- The workspace is read-only.
Removing an example
An example can be removed at any time, and removing it deletes everything in it, including what you and your team changed or added. Nothing is kept and nothing can be restored.
Before anything is deleted, the confirmation lists what goes:
- The work items, the project included, and how many of them your team added after the example.
- The hours your team logged, and the comments, links, files and public forms that create their tasks in it.
- The rows the example brought with it, in three groups: Also deleted, because nothing else uses them; Kept, because another example uses them; and Kept, because your own work uses them. From now on they are yours.
If you were working in that project, it stops being your active project. When removing it leaves the workspace with no work items at all, numbering starts again from the beginning.
A removed example can be added again. It comes back as it was the first time, without the changes made to it.
Removing works in Basic mode too, but not in a read-only workspace.
When an add fails
The card shows Failed and the reason. Press Remove to clear whatever was created, then add the example again.
