Repeating tasks

A repeating task is a task with the Repeat switch turned on. Its Start Date is the first occurrence and its Due Date sets the duration applied to every occurrence; the other fields — summary, description, priority, estimate, assignee, task type, customer, restriction — are the template each occurrence is created from. Only tasks can repeat. The AI companion draft button fills the template's text, priority and estimate, never its dates.

A repeating task set to Only me stays with the person who created it: the owner picker administrators get on an ordinary item is not offered on a repeating one. Occurrences, once created, are ordinary tasks and can be handed over like any other — see Who can see and edit a work item.

The schedule

  • Repeats: Daily, Weekly (tick the days under On these days), Monthly, on a day of the month (months without that day use their last day) or Monthly, on a weekday (First … Last + weekday), Every N days/weeks/months.
  • Ends: Never, On a date or After a number of times.
  • If the due date falls on a non-working day: Use the general configuration (the workspace default from Working days), Do not adjust, Move to next working day or Move to previous working day. Only the due date moves; the occurrence date never does.

Occurrences

Occurrences are not stored in advance. The work items list and the board show the upcoming ones for the next 90 days with a repeat icon and the status Scheduled. Opening one shows This is a scheduled occurrence of a repeating task. It becomes a real task when you save it. — save it and it becomes an ordinary task, starting Open, that you can work on like any other. Skip this occurrence removes that date from the schedule without touching the rest.

A task created from a series shows This task is an occurrence of a repeating task with an Edit series link.

Managing series

Repeating tasks (side menu) lists the series of the active project with how they repeat, when they start and end and their Next date. From a row you can Open work items (the list filtered to that series), edit or delete the series. Add new repeating task opens a new task with Repeat already on.

  • Editing a series changes future occurrences that were not created yet; tasks already created are left as they are.
  • Delete series removes future occurrences; tasks already created are kept.
  • To stop a series, set Ends to a date or a count, or delete it.

Calendar shows the occurrences month by month: a repeat icon for a pending one (click to create it), a status icon for a created one (click to open it) and a muted chip for a skipped one.
